CKS PaddleFest is Coming!!!

Opportunities abound May 25-27th for paddling enthusiasts in Buena Vista.

CKS is hosting a weekend celebration to promote the beginning of the summer paddling season May 25-27th. PaddleFest is a one of kind, interactive event featuring lake and river paddling, on water education, fun competitions, the BV Pro/Am Rodeo, beer gardens, live music, and movie premiers.  All with the common goal of raising funds and awareness for the Arkansas River.

Participants can venture to Buena Vista and take advantage of many on water events including free Stand Up Paddle board and kayak demos, fun competitions for youth and adults, and high caliber educational on water courses with RMOC and professional paddlers. Competitions and river demos will be showcased at South Main Square, while flat water paddling events will take place at McPhelemy Park.

“PaddleFest is a unique event, not only can people try a new sport like Stand Up Paddling or kayaking, they can also talk with the boat/board designers and paddle with professional athletes.  It is the only event of its kind.” states Earl Richmond one of Paddlefest promoters.

There are a vast number of events for every age and skill level at PaddleFest. There are events for kids, beginners and advanced paddlers. Fun competitions include the on water Buoy Bonanza and Sup High Jump at McPhelemy Park.

And for those who don’t want to get wet, the Buena Vista Pro/Am Rodeo returns to the LoDo Wave in the BV Whitewater Park. New for 2012, And for all of those freestyle paddlers, there will be an AM-Amateur component to this year’s competition.  Sign up and compete or kick back and watch the competition from the banks of the Beer Garden.

There are also many free dry land educational workshops that will lend advice on kayak camping, kayak fishing, fitness for paddlers, safety gear and rescue techniques.  Also, keynote speakers will offer free advice on helmet outfitting, picking the perfect paddle, how to dress for a paddling adventure and more.

Evening activities will keep you entertained with movie premiers and live music on Friday and Saturday night at the historic State Highway Building.   This year performances include Colorado's own folk legend, Angie Stevens.

Colorado Kayak Supply in Buena Vista will be buzzing with excitement as it is the ‘Event Headquarters’ for the majority of the activities. CKS will also host a gear swap and storewide sale throughout the weekend.

Returning to PaddleFest this year are many other sporting events like the SikMik Pump track competition, Yucca Disc Gold Tournament, BV Pro Raft Race. Come and participate or watch the fun.

PaddleFest is the interactive and hands on paddling experience of the year to prepare you and your family for the next on water adventure.  See you all in Buena Vista this Memorial Day weekend May 25th-27th
